India dominates Pakistan in rare Asia cup Battle

Match Report by Aalvyn Sardar

Virat Kohli hammered his 47th ODI century as India cruised to a record 228-run win over archrivals Pakistan to collect crucial points in the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup.

Having set a huge target of 357 thanks to the unbeaten tons of both Kohli and KL Rahul, India bowled out their neighbours for 128 in Colombo on Monday, to earn their biggest-ever margin of victory over Pakistan.

After bad weather had halted play on Sunday, the game extended to the reserve day and threatened to end in a no result after several more rain interruptions, but India's bowlers did well to bowl out the opposition in 32 overs.

Kuldeep Yadav finished with a five-wicket haul as Pakistan struggled against the left-arm wrist spinner.

Earlier, Kohli and Rahul were the stars as India amassed 2-356, putting on an unbroken 233 for the third wicket off 194 balls, India's highest partnership for any wicket in the competition.

It is also the fourth-highest total at Colombo's R. Premadasa Stadium, and India's joint-highest ODI total against Pakistan, equalling the 356 scored in Visakhapatnam in 2005.

India resumed on 2-147 and soon took complete control.

Rahul, back in the side after injury, scored a run-a-ball century, his sixth ODI hundred and the first since March 2021. He finished 111no off 106 balls with 12 fours and two sixes.

Kohli did even better as he became the quickest batter to get to 13,000 ODI runs. The previous record holder, Sachin Tendulkar, needed 321 innings to reach the milestone but Kohli got there in 267.

His latest ton came off 84 balls and was his fourth consecutive century at the ground. Only Hashim Amla of South Africa had previously scored four successive tons at the same venue, at Centurion.

Kohli finished unbeaten on 122 off 94 deliveries with nine fours and three sixes, making Pakistan's formidable bowling attack look fairly toothless, a much different tale to when the teams met in a first-round game in Kandy.

Pakistan's bowling was weakened, too, without Haris Rauf. The paceman sent down five overs on Sunday but wasn't available to bowl on Monday due to injury.

India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka all have one win apiece in the Super Four round, with India top on net run-rate. Bangladesh, the fourth team in the group, have lost both their matches.

Footy Finals Fever -

Story by Sports Reporter - James Chantry

After the amazing 2023 home and away season, 8 teams have fought to the top of the ladder to have a chance at the 2023 Grand Final and the chance to win it.

The 2023 FInals are important because it shows what team has put in the  most time and effer and what team has the most skilled players. It also is important as it ramps up the year and makes the final game more popular to watch.

It all kicks off on Thursday, September 7 when Collingwood will host Melbourne in the first qualifying final at the MCG from 7.20pm.

Collingwood versus Melbourne is the big line up of the week as they are 1st vs 3rd and potentially the best team in the league right now. I believe that the pie will rise to the pressure and beat Melbourne by 4 points.

On Friday night Carlton's return to the finals, with the Blues to host Sydney from 7.50pm.What can we expect from this match up?

This game is going to be a less intense game as the blues should steam roll the swans and wine by a fair margin. But After 10 years Calton have qualified for finals for the first time in 10 years, with there last finals appearance in 2013. 1 decade of struggle to get to this very moment will they win or will they choke and be eliminated by the swans.

St Kilda's match against GWS at the MCG at 3.20pm, it will be the first of Saturday's two finals, before Brisbane takes on Port Adelaide at the Gabba from 7.25pm.

It is going to be an intense week with massive line ups and intense games. Collingwood is still the favourite to win the final and when Nick Daicos in round 2 of preliminary finals they should be unstoppable.

Australian Cricket Team Faces Squad Setbacks Ahead of South Africa Series

As the Australian cricket team gears up for a crucial series against South Africa, they find themselves grappling with a string of injuries that have sidelined several key players from the desired squad. The likes of Pat Cummins, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, and Glenn Maxwell have all been ruled out due to injuries, leaving a noticeable void in the team's lineup. However, despite these setbacks, the team remains optimistic about their chances, with hopes that these star players will make a swift recovery in time for the upcoming World Cup.

"It's certainly a challenging situation for us, losing some of our top players to injuries," admitted the coach Andre Mcdonald. "But injuries are a part and parcel of professional sports, and our focus now is on providing the best possible support to these players for their recovery."

Pat Cummins, the team's premier fast bowler and vice-captain, sustained an injury during a recent training session. The medical team is closely monitoring his progress, and there is confidence that Cummins will be back in action for the World Cup. In his absence, younger talents are expected to seize the opportunity to showcase their skills on the international stage.

"We have a strong bench of fast bowlers, and this situation provides a chance for some of our promising talents to step up and prove their mettle," commented former Australian cricketer Brett Lee. "The experience gained in these challenging times can only bode well for their development."

While the absence of Steve Smith's consistent batting prowess is a concern, his recovery timeline indicates that he could make a return for some of the T20 and ODI matches against South Africa. The team management is closely monitoring his progress and remains hopeful about his availability.

"Steve is a vital asset to the team, and his contribution is invaluable," said former captain Aaron Finch. "We're confident that he's working hard on his recovery and will be back in action as soon as he's fit to do so."

Mitchell Starc's fiery pace and Glenn Maxwell's all-round abilities are also missed, but the team's focus has shifted toward embracing the opportunity for newer players to make their mark. The likes of Matthew Wade, Spencer Jhonson, Josh Inglis, Arron Hardie, and Tanveer Sangha are all in contention for making their international debuts during this series.

"These youngsters have shown great promise in domestic and franchise cricket," stated selector George Bailey. "Their inclusion not only speaks to their talents but also the depth of talent that Australian cricket possesses."

While preparing for the World Cup with a limited core squad poses challenges, the Australian team remains determined to put their best foot forward. The debutants have already demonstrated their potential in the lead-up, with some impressive performances in practice matches and training sessions.

"Cricket is a team sport, and every player, whether experienced or new, contributes to the team's success," emphasised coach Andrew Mcdonald  . "This adversity is an opportunity for our players to grow individually and collectively. We're committed to making the most of the situation and showcasing the fighting spirit that Australian cricket is known for."

As the Australian cricket team navigates through these injuries and embraces the emergence of fresh talent, the upcoming series against South Africa becomes not just a challenge but a chance to prove the team's resilience and adaptability. Fans and pundits alike eagerly await the performances of both the established players on their road to recovery and the exciting newcomers ready to make their mark on the international stage.

Jack Zeiball Hospitalised After Unprovoked Attack.

Ex North Melbourne player Jack Zieball was assaulted by a group of men after celebrating his 280th game for North Melbourne and his final game ever in the AFL.

The 32 year old North Melbourne player Jack Zieball spent the night in hospital with facial and head injuries.

Two men have been arrested for the assault but one has not been charged. 1 of the 3 attackers are still on the run.
The Night of the Attack

Jack Zeiball played his last game and some teammates went out to celebrate the career he had and his impact on the AFL world.

"We were out celebrating a decorated career and a true champion of a football club”

"To end the night like that, it isn't great." North Melbourne player Jy Simpkin.

The venue said Zeiball was allegedly “set upon” after stepping out of the bar he was meant by a group of men that started an unprovoked attack.

The police say that the 3 offenders were related to an earlier incident where they were kicked out of the venue. It was also reported that Jack was pushed on to the road were he was punched in the face and was kicked mercilessly until his attackers fled.

After a night in Hospital and a surgery on Ziebell face and head, he was released later the following day.

Mitch Marsh Captain After Cummins injury

Mitch Marsh, one of the most destructive all rounders in white ball cricket and on the back of an Ashes century, was announced to be captain of the Australian cricket team earlier this week. The Western Australian says it's a “very proud moment” for him.

Considering his eventful year, including his ton against England, good performances in white ball cricket and “throw in getting married”, Marsh seems to be a great fit for the role. Not only is he a dangerous player, but an experienced one as well.

The fast bowling batting allrounder is an exceptional player with amazing performances in the last ODI world cup and other white ball cricket matches for Australia. At 31 one years old he has experience under great white ball cricket captains Pat Cummins and Aron finch.

Expressing his pride, Marsh described this as a significant moment for him. He cited the positive environment fostered by Pat Cummins and Andrew McDonald within the team and expressed his hope to sustain it. With prior experience leading the Western Australia side in shield cricket, Marsh aims to assume a senior role once Cummins' tenure concludes.

Mitch Marsh doesn't know whether or not he'll have any leadership roles after the series but says “I'll be captain as long as Australia wants” and confirms he is ready for a long term role as the Australian white ball cricket captain.

The absence of Pat, Smudge and Starc although unfortunate leaves room for younger players to shine. Both Sangha and Jonson are both very likely to play in the ODI series against South Africa. Marsh says "I think we'll definitely get a look at them both at some point throughout the tour,"
